Thanks so much for your fast reply but the airator or diffuser part is inside the tap and don't think it's meant to come off as it only sticks out of the tap end about 1mm , extremely hard to get a grip on it .If your washing machine waste uses a standpipe type arrangement, it may potentially freeze in the winter months.

The reason for not being able to plumb in with the washing machine is that I can't make holes in the counter top as the property is rented and alterations like this are not allowed. Alternatively, connection joints are available that allow a new length of pipe to be added to the existing hose without the need for an entirely new length.If you do reach the point where you are not sure how to progress, hiring a washing machine or dishwasher repair tradesperson is usually the best option. I was thinking it was one of those compression fittings, but they don't seem to have threads on the inside, so was confused as to how it would fit onto the kitchen tap.
