Although the Coleman Meadowoood 4L is larger than the 4, it's still a viable tent for weekend camping, giving you that flexibility for short and longer camping trips.

On this trip, we took the bedroom divider down and had ourselves one lovely (cool and dark) sleeping space with plenty of room for our clothes and bags. Just remember to re-peg the corners and put out the guylines so that the tent fabric is nice and tight, which helps the tent keep strong and makes it easier for any water to run off. Built-in porches like this are perfect for family camping. They provide a wet-dry zone. This is an area of the tent you can leave wet coats and muddy boots, leaving the inner sanctum of the tent warm and dry. Empty the tent, take out the pegs and press the air valves. This tent was down fast and the air expelled from the air beams very well. Be sensible with the folding of the beams and the last of the air is expelled towards the open valves. All that’s left is to fold the tent to the width of the bag roll it up and pop it in. Easy thanks to the reasonable bag size. Fire Retardant - The fire retardant characteristic of our material ensures that the fabric will not flare dangerously out of control and will self extinguish, giving time to escape in the event of an emergency.Definitely a job that can easily be done by one person, and without feeling you’ve just gone 10 rounds with a wrestler. It went straight into the bag first time, no need to unroll, get more air our and then hope it fits into the bag. It was all very effortless, and most importantly stressless. You can split it into 2 cabins by using a room divider. A disadvantage of the divider is the pull-string closures instead of a zipper. As a result, there are openings on all sides to the other sleeping area. That means that if one person has not zipped up the screen, the other also has mosquitoes.

At the front there’s a large door and over the top is a decent sized poled sun/rain canopy which also has sides expanding down to the floor. The canopy did give us some shelter from the hot sun as we sat outside the Meadowood Air 4 in the baking July sun. I’m sure it would help keep the rain off us and the front door had there been any sign of any wet stuff. Plenty of storage is provided and the range is also available in a six-person version (Castle Pines 6L) and a smaller four-person version (Castle Pines 4) for those campers who don’t need such a large living area. As the title suggests, the Meadowood 4 does have room for sleeping 4 people. Sleeping in 2 rooms, equally split, the dividing wall can be removed to make a bigger single sleeping area. My only (small) criticism is that I would love tent brands (not just Coleman) to design their bedroom pods so that dividing walls can be repositioned and not just taken down. Making this tent sleep 3 with a divider that could give a 70/30 split would be a handy feature and ideal for parents with 1 child who wants their own room/space.

There is a ventilation opening in the upper centre that cannot be closed. We were not bothered by this, despite the storm at night. The upper part of the doors of the sleeping area can be opened for ventilation, the lower part will still remain cool and dark.
