About this deal

MAJOR BREWING UPGRADES - The Flair PRO 2 features three upgrades over Flair’s other manual espresso makers including a removable stainless steel spout, an enhanced all-stainless steel bottomless portafilter with improved flow dynamics, and a silicone lever grip for better brewing ergonomics. The Flair Classic is one of our most affordable manual espresso makers, but it can be upgraded improve your brewing potential and style. Another reason one needs a coarser ground is the manual application of pressure, and what the actual pressure is inside the brewing chamber. The standard/classic flair comes with a sold stainless steel tamper, the brew head and chamber is all metal, and the piston itself is plastic, but you can get a solid steel piston if you like.

If you’re brewing a single shot using 7-10g, the same grind you use for your pump driven espresso machine will do fine in the Flair. The carry case is a nice option, allowing the entire machine to break down into a small travel package.Flow-Control Portafilter – Perfect for espresso beginners, the Flow-Control Portafilter features a restricted exit port, meaning the portafilter does the work of building the appropriate pressure needed for an espresso extraction. FULLY PORTABLE - All Flair Espresso Makers come standard with our precision cut and padded carrying case meaning you can take your manual espresso maker anywhere you’d like.

Not only can the Classic easily be integrated with such accessories as our stainless steel tamper and drip tray, but when you’re ready to level-up your brewing, grab one of our Pressure Gauge Kits to receive immediate feedback while brewing. Maintaining all the performance of the original PRO, the PRO 2 is perfect for those looking for cafe-quality espresso, all from a portable, manual, lever machine. A stainless steel portafilter allows for naked or spouted brewing, and our custom pressure gauge ensures precise extractions. As far as I can make out, the main difference between the way I've been using Flair, and the way others have who have rated it on parr with powered lever machines, is that while I was following the instructions and pre-heating the cylinder with hot water (which didn't seem to make much difference really, vs not preheating it), others have found that this doesn't pre-heat it enough just with hot water (especially when using medium roasts, as I usually tend to) and that better quality shots come from actually boiling the cylinder in a pan of water, and then using tongues or heat proof gloves to handle it. It also comes with a removable attachment for the portafilter base which will host the PRO's brewing head when you decide to upgrade. We offer a number of additional options to enhance your brewing experience, including an extra portafilter to brew consecutive shots without cleaning first and a temperature strip for improved heat management. Anyone can learn to brew with the Flair Classic, but the process does take some effort, materials, and a small learning curve.

I was able to start making great shots of Espresso with Rok right from the start, right from the first try. It worked fabulously for a few months, before the simple physics of high pressure operating against plasticparts meant that it stopped working. The problem with the La Pavonis is, the brew head gets too hot after pulling one shot; you can cool it down with a ghetto fix — wrapping a cold cloth around the piston assembly to draw off excessive heat — but it’s a crap shoot and even if you get the second shot pull okay, the third one is going to be a torched, burnt shot. The Flair PRO 2 is a standout manual espresso maker, but even the best can be upgraded improve your brewing potential and style. In each test, we added just-off-boil water from a Hario Buono Kettle, and we placed the cup elevated so it was as close to the exit spout as possible. It did (and does) brew a beverage akin to espresso, and has been developed a bit since, and re-introduced as the ROK espresso maker back in 2013, and is still for sale today.
