PrimaLoft® Gold Insulation is the pinnacle of comfort and performance - the highest performing synthetic insulation available. In our many years of selling samples, we have found that 99% of them are exactly the same as the finished production version. The fit and finish is really good, and the best thing about them is that the material selection allows your feet to breathe a bit, I had a couple of pairs by Northface and because of the way they assemble them, they coated the backside of the fabrics with a layer of PU which may have made them a bit waterproof, but unfortunately they become a non-permeable membrane and sweat bath. WHERE OTHER BOOTIES ARE MAYBE AS WARM, THEY ARE EITHER DOWN WHICH COMPROMISES THEM, OR HAVE BULKY SOLES THAT THAT MAKE THEM HARD TO USE.

The sole was comfortable with lots of give on the sandstone patio and the quartzite entryway into the house.

Whether the Montane’s Hypalon sole is sufficiently grippy will wait until I can get into snow (possibly during my upcoming Asia trip). My initial walks around the house, onto the patio, and up and down the fairly steep stairs showed that the Montanes fit as expected with no excess slippage and no floppiness that would allow walking out of them.
