About this deal

Ensemble Cast: The story focuses primarily on Will Williams and the people who happened to be at his bar when the genies came to Earth, sharing focus between them as they all try to make sense of their current situation. It’s a truly crazy, life-changing moment to be at the center of a Hollywood bidding war with 27 suitors,” Browne said. Ernest Hemingway, Dorothy Parker, and Jim Morrison were all avid drinkers and the Remnants of them produced from people's wishes are no different.

The art by Ryan Browne was very nice, and had a sort of old school feel to it, like those old science fiction books.

Because of her mother's wish, Betty is immortal until she makes a wish, so she is determined to become the last person on Earth to do so. To navigate the possibilities of the this reality, the eight-part series tells the story over increasing spans of time: The first eight minutes, hours, days, weeks, months, years, decades, and finally centuries. S. has been covered by a tarp labeled "Dougland", South America is a barren wasteland, and the planet has a chunk bitten out of it by the moon. It will be interesting - for me - to see if my first impressions are borne out as I read further or if I do a 180 and after a few issues fall in love with this comic. I was able to grab one of exclusive preview issues that was released a couple months before the official Image release and absolutely loved it so I have been eagerly awaiting the collected edition. But thanks to a quick-witted barkeep, we've got a safe island and get to learn about a bunch of people stuck in the eye of the storm, relate to their troubles, hope they'll get through it fine, and in general bind the hilariously insane premise to human terms that we can understand. Incompatible Orientation: Daisy doesn't learn Brian is gay until long after she wastes her wish trying to make him fall in love with her (it didn't work because he was inside the wish-proof bar when she made the wish but she wasn't). Meanwhile, Will Williams and the people inside his small Michigan bar grapple with their everchanging reality and what to use their omnipotent wishes on.This consists of a rapid depletion of genies on both sides, as each attacking wish is met with a counter-wish that nullifies its effects.

Definitely an improvement on Curse Words, but Eight Billion Genies is still just a big, goofy idea stretched out over eight issues. I never felt like it fit too well with the premise, to begin with, and it started to break things as we got into decades towards the end. Flying Brick: Robbie uses his wish to become this, with powers of flight, super-strength, and super-durability. Not entirely, mind, but as the story switched into a mix of superheroes, family drama, utopia/dystopia, I wasn't as invested any longer. Within seconds, the world is transformed forever, not into a paradise but into a collision of desires as varied as the humans who made them — from getting superpowers and seeing dinosaurs to having a parent come back to life and looking pretty.

It isn't long before dinosaurs, Humongous Mecha, and superpowered people come roaring down the street, but Will's wish protects him, the bar, and everyone inside. The story follows a small group of wishers from the first eight seconds of this new world through the first eight centuries, expertly blending comedy, tragedy, heart, and utter absurdity. It's effective not just against the direct wishing, but also the indirect consequences, such as the afore-mentioned carasaurus failing to so much as dent the seemingly much more fragile Lampwick Bar.

Cool Old Guy: Will Williams is the proprietor of the Lampwick Bar and Grill who consistently serves as a voice of reason amidst the chaos. I liked this one so far-it had a good energy and I’m especially curious about the bartender, so I’ll be chasing down Vol. Brilliant concept: every single person on Earth gets a genie at the exact same time and one wish, anything they want.

Every once in a while, a story comes along that is so amazing and cool and unique, I recommend it to everyone. The narrative spans years, decades, and finally, centuries so that readers explore the aftermath of the world constantly changed by wishes. It grabbed me so well at the start and held the grip for the first three-quarters, maybe even a little more, and only slipped towards the end. Nigh-Invulnerability: Will wishes for his bar and anyone and anything inside it to be completely immune to the effects of wishes made outside it.
