About this deal

To me, the RTIC blends the aesthetics of YETI, has a strong performance in the insulation and ice-retention tests, and is loaded up with the most practical features. If you’re all about the overland truck experience and want a cooler that looks like military cargo, you’ll likely want a different cooler. cans and as much ice as we could fit, the Igloo's large handle helps make this cooler reasonably easy to transport.

And unlike many other coolers, the BMX has no rubber feet to stop it from sliding across the bed of your pickup if you neglected to tie it down. However, we feel that the dark grey coloring likely works against this cooler if you do happen to leave it in the sun. While it’s more expensive than the Igloo BMX 25, I felt the additional cost was worthwhile, especially because the style is important to me. The YETI Roadie 24 performed the best on all of my ice retention and insulation tests, but I’m not convinced it was that much better, especially considering it’s more like 250% the cost of the Igloo BMX. The company boasts it has "20% thicker foam" and can maintain four days of ice retention, though it admits that such results are achieved under its controlled tests. We think the handle could be improved a bit by a more forgiving, squishy section, but honestly, the overall larger size and ergonomic shape of the handle and cooler edges make this ice chest a breeze to carry, compared to the other coolers in this review. Despite the BMX hinges being proclaimed as delivering "extended performance," it is possible to pull the mounting screws right out of the lid by overextending the open lid.

If you want to upgrade your individual-sized cooler without spending hundreds on the competition, we recommend this one. There’s no drain spigot, but I doubt you’ll find yourself wanting one with a cooler this size—it’s small enough that you can generally pick it up and tip excess water out on your own. I’m rarely carrying just beer, and the YETI is often much more useful for picnics than the above graph suggests.

The best performing was the YETI Roadie 24, but that only outperformed the Igloo by 5 hours (about 8% better). If I could only pick one, it’d be the RTIC 20, and my reason is that it has excellent durability and superior build quality to the Igloo, has tremendous insulation, and looks cool.

This tough little cooler surprised us with its long-lasting, thick-walled insulation, shockingly low weight, and cost that's a fraction of the competition. In addition, they are made in such a way that ensures that you can cool your food or drinks for a very long time. Despite its small and lightweight size, the BMX 25 cool box features Igloo Cool Riser technology and extra-thick walls with Igloo Ultratherm insulation, allowing for up to 4 days ice retention making the BMX 25 one of the best performing small Igloo cool boxes. We spent a significant amount of time standing and jumping on these coolers, and we wouldn't recommend you do the same.
